Sorry the Queen Mary experience was not what was expected, but at least you all got a work out and no one fell through the rickety walkway! It's a shame it has not been kept up better, and certainly with better marketing and management it would be an ideal gateway to a world gone by that would still appeal to the imagination of a modern public.

The Tar Pits does sound very cool. Inspires me to want to watch the film Volcano, with Tommy Lee Jones. May not have been the intended result, but still...
